Plot

This film is a story of four medical college friends who decided to go on a hike in a remote backcountry, but their adventure turns into a desperate fight for survival as a crisis appears putting their lives on edge. These unexpected and dangerous situations create an intense environment forcing them to fight for their lives. How will they survive through such an ordeal? Why is such a situation created in the first place? The further story of the movie tries to unfold these questions.

Star Performances

The protagonists of this film did a great job of portraying their characters and instilling a sense of tension among the audience about the future of these characters. There are cameo appearances of Alencier Lopez and Jaffer Idukki in this film. The rest of the cast helped in conveying the story to the story to the audience through their performances.

Analysis

Through the movie “Mayavanam”, Director Dr. Jagathal wanted to convey a gripping adventure thriller to the audience. The film also features a promising star cast in the lead. This movie witnesses the tale of four medical college students who went on a hike to a remote backcountry, but unfortunate and unexpected incidents started to take place on the hike. Earlier which seems to be an enjoyable trip, turns out to be a survival game. However, the story of this movie lacks a coherent central theme, and in an attempt to achieve a lot in a limited time-frame, it fails to provide a pleasing climax to the audience. The lack of character development also makes the movie’s story feel out of order. There isn’t anything exceptionally done worth talking about in the movie. The music of this film is the central element of the film that successfully carries the emotions to the audience. Dr. Jagathlal did an exceptional work with the music and the background score of this film. The poor cinematography of the film is equated by skillfully editing the film. The editing was done with such skillfulness that it kept the audience on the edge of their seats for most of the first half. The production quality of this movie when compared to the budget of this film could have been a little better. The poor use of graphic and visual effects in this film dilutes the movie-watching experience of the viewers. The main aim of this film is to provide the audience with a thriller story and it does achieve this aim with its jump-scares and horrifying sequences.
