Su Thirunavukkarasar, the politician, was born on 13th July 1949 in Theeyathoor in Pudukottai district. He completed his MA in Madras University, Chennai and BL in Venkateshwara University in Tirupathi. He entered into politics in 1977 as a cadre of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Thirunavukkarasar contested in Aranthangi constituency and became the MLA. At the age of 27, he was elected as the Deputy Speaker in Legislative Assembly, Tamilnadu. He had been the Minister in the cabinet of Dr “ M G Ramachandran.

”He served in the Excise, Housing Board and Handloom Ministries. Thirunavukkarasar had been the Union Minister for Telecommunications, Shipping and Information And Technology. In 2000, he was removed from ADMK by “ Jayalalithaa” due to some indifference between them. He launched a party named MGR Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam in 2000. Thirunavukkarasar merged his party with Bharatiya Janata Party in 2002. In 2009, he quit BJP and joined Congress Party. In 2009, he contested from Ramanathapuram constituency but failed to win the election. He had been the member of Rajya Sabha too. Sonia Gandhi, the President of the All India Congress Party, appointed him as the secretary of the AICC in 2017.

While working in MGR’s cabinet, Su Thirunavukkarasar had established Tamil Nadu Magnesite Corporation, Tamil Nadu Minerals Limited and State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited. He had also established the schools, colleges and polytechnics during his initial stages of the political career. Su Thirunavukkarasar is married to Jayanthi and the couple has three sons and two daughters. Su Thirunavukkarasar had also worked in a film titled Agni Paarvai as the hero. The film that released in 1992 has Saranya Ponvannan as the female lead, Radha Ravi and KR Vijaya played the supporting roles.
